Monday Nights (8PM Eastern/ 7PM Central)
Episode 1: Pilot
Synopsis
Computer nerd, Chuck Bartowski, works at Buy Moore, a store that is a lot like the real Best Buy. Buy Moore even has its on Geek Squad, but of course, they can't call it that. They call it Nerd Herd. And, the store next door is called Large Mart, a name reminiscent of Wal-Mart with the visual suggestion of a Sam's Club. (If you haven't guessed, they did all of this on purpose.)
Anyway, back to Chuck. He has a best friend whose name is Morgan and a sister whose significant other is known as Captain Awesome. Because everything to him is ... awesome. "You're flossing your teeth?" he would ask. Then, he would say, "That's awesome."
Chuck has a problem. His girlfriend left him for his college arch-rival five years ago, and because of this, Chuck cannot get a date much less a girl. Whenever the subject of past girlfriends comes up, he goes into a spiel about his ex-girlfriend, thus ending the conversation.
On his birthday, Chuck receives an email from Bruce, his college arch-rival who stole his girlfriend. The email contains a video of thousands of pictures played in a rapid collage format. These pictures are about to change his life because the pictures are government secrets.
After 9/11 the NSA and CIA were told to get along and share information freely with one another. They decided to put all their information into one computer, letting the computer analyze the information. This encrypted analysis comes in the form of thousands of pictures. Sound familiar? Anyway, this computer information is stolen by Bruce, who Chuck thought was an accountant but turns out to be a rogue CIA agent. Before Bruce is killed, he emails these pictures to Chuck.
Sarah, CIA, is sent to retrieve the information from Chuck's computer, but the computer is destroyed during the heist. She later learns that Chuck saw the images. He, thus, knows everything. The NSA want Chuck. The CIA want Chuck. And, they don't seem to be working together.
Anyway, Chuck tells them about a bomb that is going to be detonated soon. Using a virus from the Internet, Chuck defuses the bomb.
This Week's Awards
Coolest Line (1st place): "Whoa ... computer emergency."
Coolest Line (2nd place): "Don't puke on the C4."
Coolest Scene (1st place): Sarah throws a knife at an emergency switch at a guard station, bringing up a concrete barrier. The NSA vehicle which was going to run her over rams full speed into the barrier.
Coolest Scene (2nd place): While dancing with Chuck, Sarah pulls out two hair sticks (sorry, I don't know the official name) and throws them at two NSA operatives coming after her. She does this, of course, in stealth mode. Chuck never saw a thing.
This Week's Comments
First, I have to say it even though everyone who has seen either the show or the preview knows. Sarah the CIA agent is off-the-chain, drop dead gorgeous.
Can the human brain decipher complex information (messages, if you will) encrypted into thousands of pictures that the subject visually observes in rapid succession?
I feel more pity for Morgan than I do Chuck. At least Chuck had a girlfriend (not to mention his new relationship with Sarah). Morgan doesn't seem to have anybody ... except Chuck.
